A constraint programming approach to the multiple-venue, sport-scheduling problem

چکیده
In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling sports competitions over several venues which are not associatedwith any of the competitors.A two-phase, constraint programming approach is developed, first identifying a solution that designates the participants and schedules each of the competitions, then assigning each competitor as the “home” or the “away” team. Computational experiments are conducted and the results are compared with an integer goal programming approach. The constraint programming approach achieves optimal solutions for problems with up to sixteen teams, and near-optimal solutions for problems with up to thirty teams. 2004 Elsevier Ltd. Agent-based approach for cooperative scheduling
This paper studies the multi-factory production (MFP) network scheduling problem where a number of different individual factories join together to form a MFP network, in which these factories can operate more economically than operating individually. However, in such network which known as virtual production network with self-interested factories with transportation times, each individual facto...
متن کاملSports scheduling: Problems and applications
Sports scheduling problems mainly consist in determining the date and the venue in which each game of a tournament will be played. Integer programming, constraint programming, metaheuristics, and hybrid methods have been successfully applied to the solution of different variants of this problem. This paper provides an introductory review of fundamental problems in sports scheduling and their fo...
متن کاملComparing Mixed-Integer and Constraint Programming for the No-Wait Flow Shop Problem with Due Date Constraints
The impetus for this research was examining a flow shop problem in which tasks were expected to be successively carried out with no time interval (i.e., no wait time) between them. For this reason, they should be completed by specific dates or deadlines. In this regard, the efficiency of the models was evaluated based on makespan. To solve the NP-Hard problem, we developed two mathematical mode...
متن کاملExact Mixed Integer Programming for Integrated Scheduling and Process Planning in Flexible Environment
This paper presented a mixed integer programming for integrated scheduling and process planning. The presented process plan included some orders with precedence relations similar to Multiple Traveling Salesman Problem (MTSP), which was categorized as an NP-hard problem. These types of problems are also called advanced planning because of simultaneously determining the appropriate sequence and m...
متن کاملA Possibility Linear Programming Approach to Solve a Fuzzy Single Machine Scheduling Problem
This paper employs an interactive possibility linear programming approach to solve a single machine scheduling problem with imprecise processing times, due dates, as well as earliness and tardiness penalties of jobs. The proposed approach is based on a strategy of minimizing the most possible value of the imprecise total costs, maximizing the possibility of obtaining a lower total costs, and mi...
